October 2022 Monthly Foreword
What a month!
After months of preparation, blood, sweat and tears we were finally treated to not one but two exceptional events. First, we hopped on a plane to Vegas for ITC where over 9,000 people came together for the world’s largest insurance conference before nipping back to Europe where another 1,000 joined up for DIA Munich. We had the best of both worlds. Vegas with its high-octane movement centre juxtaposed with Munich’s laid back and convivial style.
We learned some incredible things from incumbents, insurtechs, investors and influencers alike who shared stage and screen to deliver the latest insights during a turbulent economic time. While everyone who came to the events will have gleaned their own personal takeaways, one thing’s for sure: there is still plenty of appetite to innovate!
Outside of events, there was still plenty of activity in September…
Pie announced a monster Series D round totalling $315 million and Lemonade just announced its entry into the UK market. With some of the biggest players in the insurtech scene still making earth-shuddering movements, the sector is better placed than most to buck some of the tech trends and still keep soldiering on.
As the dust settles on a blockbuster month for the insurance industry, we’re hoping that the connections that were made, fostered and renewed will lead to yet more impactful changes. So expect more partnerships, mammoth funding rounds, and acquisitions over the coming months. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
